Be there to experience the flavors of award winning breweries from across the country—from highly acclaimed  local beers by Yards, Victory, Nodding Head and Dogfish Head, to great brews from special guests like Rogue, Stone, Ommegang, Southampton, Spaten and He'brew. 50 brewers and 120 brews. Do you have what it takes to be proclaimed Philly Beer Geek 2008? That honor comes with over $1000 in prizes. A part of Philadelphia Beer Week, the 1st Annual Philly Beer Geek Finals Competition 2008 will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Johnny Brenda's. But to get to the finals, you have to win a qualifying round at a participating bar, and we're one of them. We'll be holding the Beer Geek Qualification as part of our Wednesday night Quizzo on March 5th. Judges will be home brew expert and writer Nancy Rigberg, home brew awad winner Jim Keaveney, and Grey Lodge Lodgemaster Scoats. Quizmistress E-Unit will emcee. As a bonus the winner from the Grey Lodge will receive the Grey Lodge Beer Geek 2008 Crown and a hand crafted beer geek scepter.

Executive Pastry Chef Dan Pino at Nineteen (XIX) café, bar and restaurant located on the 19th floor of The Park Hyatt at The Bellevue at Broad and Walnut Streets, will offer a special menu that incorporates his favorite brews into sweet creations for Philly Beer Week. Chef Pino's beer desserts include: Sticky Toffee Pudding with Malted Weyerbacher Old Heathen Stout Ice Cream, Coffee Mascarpone Cream and Brooklyn Brown Braised Pineapple; Milk Chocolate Mousse with Red Hook Ale Sorbet, Spiced Mango Cream and Apricot Marmalade; Macerated Raspberries with Sly Fox O'Reilly's Stout foam, Sesame Powder and Shaved Dark Chocolate; and a selection of beer ice creams and sorbets. Throughout Philly Beer Week, City Tavern's Chef Proprietor Walter Staib & Yards Brewmaster Tom Kehoe, will offer a four course prix-fixe menu.  Each course features a different selection from Yards’ "Ales of the Revolution" paired with authentic colonial fare, just like the original brewers enjoyed them!  This menu is available each night of the Philly Beer Week Celebration, Friday March 7 through Saturday March 15, 2008.  Reservations are available at your leisure.  $45 per person, tax & gratuity are additional.
