Wheat Beer Fest is SPTR's summer kick-off block party. We'll pour 30+ wheat beers as Chef Scott Schroeder breaks out the grill for a mouth-watering street BBQ. Please come join sour beer lover Jonny Medlinsky and your friends at the Khyber Pass Pub for our second annual sour beer class during Philly Beer Week 2013! This year's class promises to be a very special evening, as it will be taught by the incredibly knowledgeable and interesting Nick Bokulich. Nick is a professor and microbiological researcher at UC - Davis , who has worked with several breweries like Allagash and Anderson Valley to create some of America's best sour beers. His scientific research about the all important souring yeast and bacteria (Brettanomyces , Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, etc...) and its application are critical to producing the bold and beautiful flavors that characterize the best of the American sour beers scene. Nick will be joined by local brewer Gerard Olson from Forest and Main Brewing Company. With Nick's help (think slides!), we will compare a few traditional European examples of wild / spontaneously fermented beers with some of the laboratory created and controlled American sour beers (a few that Nick help to create). There will be plenty of delicious and rare beers from the likes of Allagash, Russian River, The Bruery, Oxbow, Round Guys (local!), Tilquin, Boon, Rodenbach, etc. In addition, There will also be plenty of scrumptious Khyber Pass Pub snacks (vegetarian options!) to accompany these special beers. This is simply Christmas in October the 2nd biggest pumpkin beer festival in the world.  This year we have partnered with Brew Works and they will be making 8 exculsive pumpkin brewes just for us in addition to the 50 plus other pumpkin beers, ciders & lambics being poured for the day.  It all starts at 9am with a special ticket only pumpkin brunch with all items having pumpkin in them.  Your ticket will cost you $12 and covers your food which is all you can eat.  The brunch is limited to 200 ticket and go on sale September 1st they go quick so don't hesitate.  At 11am the event then opens up to everyone with the street being closed off and outdoor tables lining the entire street  We have consession stands to help speed you with getting your suds and grub with the only OUTDOOR TAP TOUR in the city.  This year we will be partnering with Jim Beam & Pinnacle to create and outdoor cocktail station that will be creating pumpkin drinks & coctails.  Oh did we mention that we are doing Hay Rides also.
