For this special event, we are offering some very rare and delicious barrel aged beers, side by side with the liquor / spirit that the barrels originally held. This way you can learn to identify and appreciate the spectrum of flavors produced by aging a beer in used liqour / spirit casks. Try them separate, try them together, try them all! Highlights will include: Shawnee Craft Brewing's V.S.O.P. (a honey ale aged in Laird's apple brandy barrels) side by side with Laird's 7 1/2 yeard old apple brandy; Allagash Curieux (belgian triple aged in Jim Beam barrels); De Dochter van Korenaar Peated Embrasse (A Belgian dark strong ale aged in Ardmore scotch barrles); Vicory Oak Horizontal (A barley wine aged in bourbon barrels); DESCHUTES CONFLUX #1 (the ultimate blend of rye, pinot noir, cognac, sherry and bourbon barrles!) and more! Not a bad way to start your weekend / beer week!

Yards presents: This Radiant Boy & JJL upstairs at Johnny Brenda's.Check out a fine display of Yards on tap and Rock n' Roll in your ears. $10 cover
This Radiant Boy - (Set time: 11:15 PM)Having retired in the summer of '06 with a sweaty, beer soaked party at Ye Olde Khyber, This Radiant Boy has decided to join their powers for a special ONE TIME ONLY reunion gig at Johnny Brenda's. The unique power-pop of Mike Guggino, Rick Hass. Adam Herndon, Brian 'Bucky' Lang, & Dan Verechia will bring you back to a time when MySpace ruled, RayBans were not yet back in style, and the word Twitter didn't exist.
JJL - (Set time: 10:15 PM)'JJL is the new project from Philadelphia based singer/guitarist Jay Laughlin best know for his work with his past bands Lenola and Like A Fox. JJL is a three piece band featuring Jay on vocals/guitar backed with the ex-Like A Fox rhythm section of Pete Girgenti on drums and Brian Wilknson on bass. This is just another step forward in the long journey Jay has taken in his past bands where a foundation of rock-solid songwriting is married to Technicolor production resulting in satisfaction for the soul and brilliant sonic candy for the ears. The vocals float and soar while effected keyboards & buzzsaw guitars guide the songs along a happily disorienting ride, all above a massive sounding rhythm section. JJL is an adherence to to song tradition while also sounding like it's being beamed back to you from the future, covered in beautiful static and gloss.

Learning to judge beer is a task that takes a lot of practice, and if drinking was the only determining factor you would probably consider yourself an expert at this point. Putting a name to that weird flavor or twang takes you to the next level of beer analyzing geekdom. Let Grand Master BJCP beer judge Andy Hejl be your guide through a beer off-flavor smorgasbord. Beer flavor components in this tasting have been developed by the Siebel Institute to capture dozens of common and uncommon beer flaws. After your palate screams “uncle!” refresh yourself with some finely crafted local microbrews from John Stemler's Free Will Brewing Company, Keystone's very own employee gone pro.

Meet Anne-Cathérine Dilewyns, one of the very few female Belgian brewers. At 26 years old, she is the youngest brewery owner in Belgium. Anne-Cathérine was recently named 'one of three rising star brewers in the world'. She does make kick-ass beer. Her great-great grandmother ran a brewery until World War 2, when the copper kettles were confiscated to make munitions. We'll be serving an inspired five-course dinner to complement her amazing beers. Don Feinberf & Wendy Littlefield, of Vanberg & DeWulf, will be on hand to introduce us to Anne-Cathérine. Don & Wendy were pioneers in bringing great Belgian beer to the US. They were so far ahead of the curve that I think they actually created the curve. Monk's Café would not exist without the inspiration I drew from their passion for great Belgian beers. You are in for a real treat tonight and this will be über cool. Seriously, you don't want to miss this event.

Victory Brewmaster Bill "Sommbillionaire" Covaleski has a way with words, the old school charm and grace of a 20th century Parisian maitre d', and an encylopedic knowledge of beer and beer pairings. Who better then to help us work the floor as a "Beer Sommelier," catering to your every whim with sips of suggested complements to your meal and regaling you with insights into all things beer, homebrewing, tradition, art, culture, Justin Bieber lyrics, obscure comedic references and more.
Bill will also treat you to a not-as-scary-as-it-sounds game of spin the bottle! S | |
